Mr. & Mrs. (Paradis-Vernis)

wooden garden house, DVD projection
225×200×296 cm
2004

A wooden garden house lies half-buried with a projection playing on the raw earth visible through a single remaining exposed window. What begins with pastoral images of flower gardens, mountain streams and sunlight skies transform from tranquil to threatening as a fountain flows in reverse and hands dig furiously into a quagmire of sand. What at first appears an idyllic magical space becomes imbued with a sense of claustrophobic disquiet.

“A sunken little building and its ‘subconscious’ stream of dreams curb the obvious with the disguised, revealing deeper, darker layers of the impeccable and its secret searches for elution.”
