excerpt from the exhibition folder:

The surprising aspect to the oeuvre of Heidi Voet lies at first sight in a seemingly treacherous playfulness and lightheartedness. But this particular game, is not only a vital necessity for mankind, it is also masterfully deployed by Voet.
Time and again Heidi Voet is able to flawlessly negotiate a critical analysis of location, material, language and other circumstances to create intriguing images. This is usually based on a shift of focus and function of space, (visual) language or actions. The playful and lighthearted approach serve not only to put the attention of the viewer on the wrong track, but ultimately invites them to see a different perspective altogether and discover the unbound. Fantasy and the absurd are used by Heidi Voet to avoid a passive approach to reality. The playful use of colors and decorative elements, as well as the use of titles and other linguistic factors contribute to very layered images where both a great art-historical, literary and critical social awareness is reflected.
For The International Photo Festival, Heidi Voet brings: "Wonder Milky Beach", images from erotic Chinese magazines to the beaches of Knokke, Belgium. By removing the images of naked girls and perfect beaches from their context and adding gymnastic instructions to them, a curious game is set in motion, in which place, time, language and movement are all involved. In many ways, Heidi Voet makes visible what is hidden.
The title of the work "Wonder Milky Beach" is an allusion to the song "Wonder Milky Bitch" by Air.
