A large expanse of graffiti covers the wall of an old, disused army hospital. Alongside the existing spray-painted tags, a sweet smell draws the attention to one rendered in a quite different material – gingerbread cookies. This overlaying of symbols, one linked to contemporary urban rebellion, the other calling upon folk traditions and fantasy, merge together to form a collective mechanism to divert from society’s norms. In its allusions and site, Stardust journeys through childhood, adolescence, and eventual disrepair, yet hinting towards a future regeneration.
